Compensation: $2790.11 to $3663.92 per semester DOE

Job summary:

Teach one course at the graduate level: REL615E Power, Privilege and Diversity. This is a 3 credits course, which requires 45 contact hours. This is an asynchronous online course to be taught in the Spring 2024 semester.

Course Description: REL-615 Power, Privilege & Diversity (3 Credits)

An examination of the nature of the human group-field. Of particular concern is how human groups create both helpful and harmful conditions in the world. This class provides the theoretical underpinnings of the group-field, including living systems theory, group dynamics, liberation theory, conflict theory, and healthy communication models such as mediation and nonviolent communication. Woven throughout is a focus on the dynamics of privilege, power, and diversity, and group-field process work as a way to engage group life. Course offered online.

Job Duties:

• Prepare course syllabus and course shell on Canvas LMS according to the Academic Affairs syllabi instructions and submit the syllabus to the Office of Academic Affairs by the established deadline.

• Instruct students online -- asynchronously -- in accordance with the syllabus, assess student progress, and assign grades to students accordingly, provide written and feedback to students on their progress in the course and on assigned work, submit grades to registrar by approved deadlines. 

• Provide one hour of office hours each week plus availability to students by appointment.

• Obtain permission from the copyright owner for any copyrighted material to be used in   source books.

• Complete any and all faculty and staff trainings, including training in Canvas CMS, as required by the Human Resources Office or the Office of Academic Affairs within the time period set for completion by those departments.

• Create and maintain a positive team environment and behave professionally with everyone

encountered in the course and scope of the job duties.

Required Qualifications

• MA, MDIV, or Doctoral degree in Religious Studies or related topics.    Prior relevant experience may substitute for degree. (NOTE: each candidate’s experience and demonstrated skills are assessed on a case-by-case basis as to their relevance to the position applied for, as well as whether they may substitute for University teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level).

• Online teaching experience.

• Willingness to co-create an inclusive community and actively participate in related professional      development, including openness to feedback and ongoing self- examination.

• Ability to create and maintain a positive team environment and behave professionally with everyone encountered in the course and scope of the job duties.

• A strong understanding of contemplative educational approaches

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency with Online Instructional/Curriculum Design

• Well-developed understanding of the dynamics of privilege and oppression, and the impact these  have on equity, access, and opportunity.

• Experience in leading experiential and contemplative practices/discussion in a classroom    setting.

• Experience with Canvas or other LMS platforms.

Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions

Faculty members spend most of their time in their classrooms or in virtual meetings with some time in offices. In the classrooms and on campus may experience: interruptions, distractions, heat, cold, dust and/or dampness. As a faculty member, you may spend extended periods in front of students and speaking as well as:

• Reading academic texts and materials, student papers, etc.

• Operating personal computer and audio-visual equipment.

• Standing or sitting for hours at a time.

• Moving around campus for classes and meetings.
