Job Summary

Naropa University seeks applicants for a fulltime core candidate Assistant or Associate professor position for a split appointment to the Interdisciplinary Studies, Environmental Studies, and Ecopsychology programs. We seek scholar-teacher-practitioners with competencies in an interdisciplinary approach to scholarship and community engagement, contemplative practice and instruction, and their own fields of inquiry.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• 20 credit hours per academic year, which may include compensated administrative duties such as program chair of Ecopsychology. Teaching will include INTD’s Gateway to Design Thinking and Naropa College’s Capstone Seminar, including teaching courses in Environmental Studies and Ecopsychology as appropriate to the candidate’s training and scholarship. We particularly welcome candidates with training in Environmental Studies, Ecopsychology, Women & Gender Studies, and Peace Studies.
• The position holds standard service responsibilities of a ranked core faculty. Service responsibilities include participation in regular program and faculty meetings; work on program evaluation and assessment; participating in admissions recruitment and marketing; support and retention of students (including interviewing prospective students); and other program tasks as well as serving on faculty committees and attending Academic Council.

• Hold weekly office hours to meet with students and prospective students.
• Work on professional development in one’s field (trainings, research, writing, presentations, etc.).
• Engage in continuing development in contemplative practice, diversity and sustainability awareness.
• Other duties as needed to support the program’s educational mission and efforts at community building with students.

What Naropa Requires…

• Master’s Degree in related field.
• 5 years of experience teaching in a higher education setting.
• Experience in online curriculum/course development and online teaching. Experience in Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) preferred.
• Experience and skill in group leadership and facilitation.
• Willingness to work as an active team member within a contemplative academic setting to continue the department’s development and sustainability.

• Master’s Degree in related field.

• The ideal candidate will have a PhD in a relevant field; and
• Have an understanding of, and a commitment to, Naropa University’s approach to contemplative education and its expression in both teaching and administration; assessment; active participation in a professional field, for example, through publishing, research, leadership in professional organizations, and service to local communities and beyond; experience in the use of the online medium for teaching and community-building; commitment to actively supporting a diverse body of faculty and students.
