Job Summary
The Buddhism-Informed Contemplative Counseling concentration (formerly Contemplative Psychotherapy and Buddhist Psychology) seeks an adjunct faculty member to join the Maitri Retreat team as Onsite Retreat Coordinator for the CNSC 760 Maitri III Retreat course in the Fall 2025 semester. This is a 2-credit course, scheduled to meet between August 22-September 6, 2025 at the Drala Mountain Center.
Course Description
A two-week residential intensive focusing on the relationship between individual contemplative practice and working with others, both in the maitri community and in clinical practice. Intensive sitting meditation, walking meditation, and community living provide opportunities for increased self-understanding, self-acceptance, and openness to differences. These learnings continue to form the ground upon which ethical and healing relationships may be cultivated. Pre-requisite: CNSC665 Maitri II.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
• Develops and coordinates all student/staff ROTA teams.
• Coordinates with Drala Mountain Center Coordinator for all retreat needs around housing, food service, sound, celebrations, supplies, etc.
• Works closely and under the direction of the Maitri Directors and faculty.
• Writes and posts all notices, messages, and schedules for the retreat.
• Administers final evaluation form to students and collects data to provide to Maitri Directors.
• Attends Maitri pre-meetings and attends to messages pre-and immediately post-retreat and brings information to the attention of Maitri Directors as needed.
• Works closely with student committees and DMC staff to plan coffeehouse and banquet.
• Takes messages and coordinates their distribution from the Maitri phone line twice per day.
• As appropriate, works with staff to manage and/or mediate student issues and educational obstacles.
• When not performing other duties, participates in group sitting meditation to help maintain continual staff presence in the meditation hall.
• Attends daily team meetings and daily DMC coordinator meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.
What We Require
• Must be computer literate, including practical knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Must have experience with meditation practice and be comfortable with long periods of sitting and walking meditation.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and three years satisfactory driving record. A car is helpful.
• Must have the ability to work well on a team and strong organizing skills.
• High degree of emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and assertive communication skills.
• All job candidates must demonstrate an appropriate level of understanding of and appreciation for the values of Naropa University and the capacity to demonstrate an integration and embodiment of these values as evidenced in work, communication, collaboration styles, and other general workplace behaviors.
What We’d Like You to Have
• Clinical and teaching experience informed by knowledge of meditation practices.
• One year’s experience with direct clinical work in the field of psychology.
• Experience in training counselors at the graduate level.
• On-going counseling and social justice teaching or facilitator experience in the field.
• Familiarity and experience with Naropa’s MA Buddhism-Informed Contemplative Counseling program.
Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions
Faculty members spend most of their time in their classrooms or in virtual meetings with some time in offices. In the classrooms and on campus may experience: interruptions, distractions, heat, cold, dust and/or dampness. As a faculty member, you may spend extended periods in front of students and speaking as well as:
• Reading academic texts and materials, student papers, etc.
• Operating personal computer and audio-visual equipment.
• Standing or sitting for hours at a time.
• Moving around campus for classes and meetings.
