Job Summary
The ROOT Office Manager manages Naropa’s outdoor/adventure program ROOT (Reconnecting on Outer Terrain,) in collaboration with the Nature-Based Transpersonal Counseling MA department. This role oversees outdoor gear rentals, supports trip coordination, and community engagement, helping students, faculty, and staff access and enjoy outdoor experiences.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
• Set-up and oversee community gear rental, including inventory, loans, purchases, cleaning, and repairs, in collaboration with the NBTC gear team, with access to the gear shed and supplies.
• Manage ROOT communications, including email lists, trip promotions, and surveys
• Support student trip planning and connect the community with local outdoor opportunities
• Facilitate trainings (e.g., Leave No Trace, backcountry safety) and group hikes
• Uphold risk management protocols and program safety standards
• Contribute to positive, collaborative community culture
• Collaborate with the Joanna Macy Center as needed
Essential Skills
• Enthusiasm for the outdoors and familiarity with gear
• Supportive customer service skills
• Local to Arapahoe campus, able to access the gear shed when needed
• Strong organization, time-management, and calendar skills
• Regularly monitor and respond to email communications
• Ability to foster a positive and inclusive work environment

Relevant Experience
• Outdoor leadership or adventure programming experience, especially in the Front Range
• WFA or WFR outdoor medical certification
• Other technical outdoor certifications

During regular daily activities, employee must be able to do the following with or without reasonable accommodation: lift up to 25 lbs, stand, walk, sit, handle/finger, bend at the waist, reach above shoulder level, kneel, crouch, interruptions/distractions, heat/cold, and dust.
